Rubinson collection

The Rubinson family was originally from Lithuania, both Uriel and Roda were teachers at Kovne. They decided to emigrate to Argentina with the colonization project of the Jewish Colonization Association (JCA) in 1928 when the situation in Europe had become very difficult. First Uriel arrived in 1928 hired as a teacher by the JCA school management. Then, his wife Roda with their two children of 6 and 8 years old (Hilel and Lazaro) arrived at the port of Buenos Aires to the Immigrants Hotel in 1929 and from there they left directly to Villa Clara, Entre Ríos. The third daughter, Rebeca, was already born in Colonia. They were language-less gringos in a new country and liked to say that they became argentinian by language and hope.

When they spoke about the colony, they called it my "Entre Rios my homeland". Uriel practiced all those years as a teacher in: Darregueira Province of Buenos Aires in 1928, Dominguez and Villa Clara Entre Ríos in 1929, Estancia la Gama Colonia Louis Oungre in 1933 and, until his death in 1941, in the Colonia Israelita School that worked in the afternoons as a complement to the official school that was taught in the morning shift.

Guided by the conviction of education, Lazaro and Hilel went to finish primary school in Paraná and then Lazaro went on to secondary school in that city. When Uriel, her father, the teacher, died in 1941 the whole family moved to Buenos Aires. Hilel and Lazaro stayed in Buenos Aires, studied and graduated from law school and practiced until their old age. Hilel, as a representative of the community, worked on the discussion of several significant bills: Anti-discrimination law and secular education law. In Buenos Aires they also built their family and worked in community places related to education. After graduating as a teacher, Rebeca emigrated to Israel in 1954 where she studied history, worked as a history teacher and interpreter, and built up her family with whom she continues to live today.
